Things to Do

This is a traditional Kerala feast served on a banana leaf. The sadya comprises 24-28 dishes, including parboiled red rice, side dishes, savouries, pickles, and dessert. It is a must-try when in Alleppey.
A fish preparation made with the rare and expensive pearl-spot fish, Karimeen Pollichathu is intensely flavoured and much loved. The dish is prepared by wrapping the marinated fish in a banana leaf and then steaming or grilling it to perfection.
A sweet and creamy dessert, palpayasam is the much-awaited dish at the end of every celebration in Kerala. This divine preparation of rice, milk and sugar garnished with cardamom, nuts and raisins must not be missed when visiting Alleppey.
This famous boat race is conducted annually on the Punnamada Lake in the month of August. During the event, the otherwise tranquil lake bustles with hundreds of people. Also known as the Snake Boat Race, this water regatta is one of its kind.
Alleppey boasts a bewitching labyrinth of backwaters composed of beautiful lakes, rivers, lagoons, canals, and innumerable rivulets. The backwaters of Alleppey are the most enchanting ones in Kerala.
The picturesque Alappuzha Beach in Alleppey is also a preferred picnic spot. A 137-year old pier and an old lighthouse are the two major attractions of the beach.
